Close Talker is an indie rock band from Saskatoon, Canada. The band has toured throughout North America and Europe, gaining the attention and praise of notable publications such as
NPR, Billboard, Clash, SPIN, Q Magazine, and Consequence of Sound. Having recently won Alternative Artist of the Year at the Saskatchewan Music Awards, the band is poised for a
breakthrough 2019. Beyond Close Talker’s recordings and videos, the music comes to life with the band’s iconic live show, leaving audiences around the world satisfied, having left all inhibitions behind. The band works tirelessly on evolving every aspect of their craft, which has lead to their strongest and most confident album to date: How Do We Stay Here?.

The Den
https://wearetheden.com/

The Den is a Canadian rock band that brings their own ambience to the sound of the classic records they grew up listening to. After their self-released E.P., the group worked closely with Producer/Engineer Doug Organ to release two singles, "Halcyon" and "Enemy" in the Fall of 2017. Focused on crafting an intimate and seamless live set, they were slotted into opening spots for Tokyo Police Club, Low Roar, San Fermin, and the Elwins, as well as touring on their own around Western Canada.

In the Summer of 2018, the band retreated once again to the studio, poised on writing songs with a sense of timelessness. Their full-length debut, titled "Motions" is a nine track record that pays respect to the music of their youth in an original manner. Filled with memorable melodies, tight grooves and synth nostalgia - it's a record that has solidified their sound. "Motions" is set for release in early 2020.

Chersea (Vancouver):
Surrounded by a myriad of instruments, Chersea uses her loop-stations to create ethereal walls of frequencies; all driven by her powerful voice and poetic lyrics, she’s able to conjure a sound like no other. Her soliloquy of personal hardship melts into an experiential production that allows you to connect with yourself and your neighbours in emotional ways you’ve never imagined. Welcome to Chersea’s story. Welcome to your own.

Royal Oak (Vancouver):
On their 2018 release ‘Pretend’, and more recently, on their anthemic new single “White Lies”, Royal Oak has successfully paired indie rock vibes with a modern pop sensibility, presenting music that is clean and controlled, and yet bursting at the seams with energy. this is a band that has clearly found their sound. On 2018’s ‘Pretend’, the band teamed up with producer/mix engineer Ryan Worsley (Dear Rouge, Said the Whale), and crafted standout tracks like “Tell Me”, with its overblown synthy charm, and “Mistakes”, a bubbly duet with Vancouverite songstress Chersea. Not ones to fix something that ain’t broke, the four joined Worsley again for a new batch of songs, pushing things even further into sleek pop territory. Time and time again, the band proves you can craft memorable hooks with an indie aesthetic, while adding a little adventurous spirit into every track.

Garrett Olson (Edmonton):
The Canadian singer/songwriter from Edmonton, AB has established his Lo-fi brand of rousing melodies, warm guitar, and warbly synth that leaves audiences feeling haunted and inspirited. Getting his start with the Little Moments EP released in 2013, he soon relocated to Toronto. Garrett's ever evolving sound took his soft spoken voice and added some punch as heard on 2014's follow up EP, entitled Changes.

After a summer tour in 2014 Garrett went on to form the Toronto garage rock group, The Fallers. The trio released their debut EP in 2015 and embarked on an ambitious 24 date cross Canada tour that saw the group enjoy a steady diet of performing and writing.
In 2016 Garrett, bassist Alex Lakusta, and engineer Josh Bowman would co-produce the full length LP, Get In, Loser - released in September, 2017.

After finding success in the Toronto alternative scene Garrett has now returned to Edmonton to focus on the solo endeavour that started it all; crafting a new sound that shows his maturity with writing, melody, and life in general.

The first single off of his upcoming debut LP, to be released under Antipole Records, is entitled “In Time” and is just the beginning of what is to come in 2019.

Vancouver’s Old Man Canyon returns with the sun-dappled electronic dream pop of their sophomore album, A Grand Facade. Since their formation in 2012, the band led by multi-instrumentalist mastermind Jett Pace have embarked on a series of tours across North America, sharing stages with artists such as Foster The People, Boy & Bear, and a sold out tour with Australia’s Paper Kites. These opportunities have arisen in part from the prominent placement of Old Man Canyon songs in TV shows such as Shameless, Suits, and Sons of Anarchy, tying their emotionally resonant music to poignant moments of onscreen drama.

_____________________________________________
Starlite Room proudly presents...

Some artists want to shine a light in the darkness. Common Deer come with an arsenal of floodlights. Music is a balm in anxious, isolated times. In the hands of this powerful Toronto quintet, it’s a vessel of uplift, a call
for camaraderie, an act of resistance against jaded nihilism. Though not explicitly political, the lyrics of vocalists

Graham McLaughlin (guitar, violin) and Sheila Hart (keyboards) reflect the zeitgeist: addressing the anxiety of the modern age, crying out for a sense of connection, driven by a sense of carpe diem that stems from personal tragedy. “Trying to create light in the darkness; it’s a mentality we share,” says Graham. They’re not blind optimists peddling escapism, though their live shows are joyous, celebratory affairs, rich with rousing, orchestral pop sound built for festival stages.

Common Deer began in 2013 with Graham, drummer Liam Farrell and multi-instrumentalist Adam Hart, who met while backing up a folk singer in Guelph, Ontario, where most of them were attending university. (Adam attended Wilfrid Laurier University for Honours Music Performance) Liam brought in his brother Connor to solidify the rhythm section, while Adam called on his sister, Sheila, to harmonize with Graham and add her own keyboards, lead vocals and her own songs. Previously, her creative outlet was poetry and short stories; Graham had been writing pop songs since he was 11. In both their harmonies and their shared leads, they create a male-female dynamic rarely heard in pop music outside of Stars, an admitted influence. As if two lead singers weren’t enough, competing for an audience’s attention is Adam, who juggles cello, synth and lead guitar; he is Common Deer’s not-so-secret weapon.Together with Graham, their string arrangements elevate the band’s sound beyond an everyday rock band; as a rhythm section, Liam and Connor also take an orchestral approach to their arrangements. There is never a dull moment on stage at a Common Deer show.

Rather than rush their early demos online, it took Common Deer almost three years to prepare their first EP, recorded with producer Laurence Currie (Hey Rosetta!, Wintersleep) and released in January 2017. It was worth the wait, presenting a major new talent with the vivid sonic space they deserve to inhabit. The new follow-up EP, simply titled II, came together much more quickly: recorded in Toronto with Gus Van Go (Arkells, Whitehorse) over two weeks, balancing the energy of their live shows with electronic percussion, layered strings, and an increased synth presence. Their sense of ambition coalesces in the final track, “Gone,” which features a noir-ish new wave synth lead, a Drake-inspired beat on the verses, Beach Boys harmonies on the chorus, and a double-kick-drum beat on the outro that channels Liam's hard rock influence and satisfies Adam and Sheila's love of metal. The only weird thing about it is that it works.

It’s that same sense of ambition that has catapulted Common Deer from most-promising status to that of serious contenders. They’ve got talent, smarts, youth, the songs and the sonics to make their story an uncommon success.

Evergreen is a four piece alternative indie-folk band, formed in 2016. Their first self-titled EP was released in 2017, and has since contributed greatly to their popularity on Spotify, as well as established their presence in the Edmonton music scene. Looking forward, Evergreen is excited to be recording their first full-length album with Royal Studios, which will be released in 2018.

Good Nature

Good Nature, Edmonton based band, formed in the fall of 2013 who met through Macewan University's music program. Everyone in the band comes from various backgrounds musically, and this is one of the reasons for their unique sound. San Fermin
Brooklyn-based San Fermin, now an eight-piece touring enterprise, did not start that way.

In December of 2012, the initially makeshift project performed a single concert—from sheet music—and signed a record deal. Their self-titled debut was subsequently released worldwide in the fall of 2013 via Downtown Records. Following rave reviews, the band was thrust into the spotlight, performing sold out shows and festivals across the world and opening for the likes of the National, St. Vincent, Arctic Monkeys, and The Head and the Heart.

“Suddenly, we were not in a vacuum. We were in the thick of it, which was thrilling but also terrifying,” bandleader Ellis Ludwig-Leone says. “There were all these new possibilities and gray areas. It was a shock to the system—out in the world, barely at home, constantly in a state of semi-crisis.”

Many of the songs on Jackrabbit, San Fermin’s second album, existed only on Ludwig-Leone’s laptop for the better part of a year, as he toured and turned the band into an ensemble operation. When at last he revisited them, he knew that they had to be reborn.

Recorded piecemeal in many sessions under Ludwig-Leone’s watchful eye, Jackrabbit bears the scars of experience admirably. If San Fermin could seem prepared and guarded to the point of being polite, Jackrabbit lines that record’s complicated compositional maneuvers and grandiose pop eruptions with necessary aggression. It is urgent and in your face, like a band sweating and singing in a cramped venue. It is emotionally complicated, too, like a group of strangers who have suddenly had their lives interrupted and linked by unexpected circumstances.

GOODWOOD ATOMS (Vancouver)

Goodwood Atoms’ blend of ethereal folk, electronic-inflected grooves and heavy-hitting climaxes echoes the complex soundscapes of progressive indie bands like Half Moon Run, Alt-J & Radiohead. Formed in 2014, Goodwood Atoms grew out of the scene at Vancouver’s Juniper Room, an underground studio and performance venue that has been the brainchild of frontman Francis Hooper. What began as an acoustic collaboration between Hooper and bassist Joe Pooley grew into a rich tapestry of sound with the addition of guitarist/violinist Dawson Verboven & Berklee-trained drummer Justin Banmann.

Modern Space is a 5 piece Toronto based band. The group, consisting of members Sean Watson Graham (vocals) Sam Arion (guitar), Alex Laurie (guitar), Cody Steele (bass) and Tay Ewart (drums) formed in 2014. The band brings an explosive bombast to their live shows, and are eager to deliver that kind of intensity across Canada. Graham says, “I’m really into a lot of beatnik poets and writers, and they’re about hitting the road, and then taking a moment to reflect and write about those experiences, and that’s what I want to do.” In creating their yet to be titled debut the group worked with producer Tawgs Salter (Lights, Walk Off the Earth, Scott Helman, USS). Modern Space has recently signed with Warner Music Canada, and will be releasing their debut EP later this year.m is said to be out sometime in September or October and it will be called "Neon Zero".
