Nuela Charles released her debut album "Aware" in late 2012, and it went on to be the very first recipient of the inaugural Edmonton Music Prize in 2013 — earning $8,000 and the honour of the city’s best album.

Charles has since gone on to win numerous awards and go on to be nominated for countless more and earned a spot as a Top 12 finalist in The Peak Performance Project, an Alberta-wide artist development contest sponsored by a Calgary radio station vying for $100,000 in support.

Three years later "Aware" has showed no signs of slowing down, with songs still being picked up on CBC Radio 2, and being placed in various TV shows. The album’s saxy and sexy "Unfortunate Love" has been earning regular spins on LA’s Tastemaker radio station KCRW. And songs such as "Crash," "Final Round," "Unfortunate Love" and "Good In Me" have been appearing in TV shows on VH1, Family Channel, W Network, CityTV, MTV and Showtime, respectively.
